What an IP address lookup can tell you
A public IP lookup can usually identify an address version, approximate network block, country, broad region, internet provider and autonomous system. City and coordinate fields are estimates from routing and provider databases, not GPS measurements.
- Both public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are supported.
- Private, loopback and reserved addresses are rejected because public geolocation databases cannot meaningfully locate them.
- Recent lookups are stored only in your browser’s local storage and can be cleared at any time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an IP address reveal an exact home address?
No. IP geolocation is approximate and commonly points to a city, provider area or network gateway rather than a precise address.
Why is my IP city incorrect?
Mobile carriers, VPNs, corporate networks and ISP routing can make the registered network location different from your physical location.
Does checking my current IP expose extra information?
The website already receives an IP as part of the normal web request. The tool uses it to request approximate public network information.
